Construction of the Cathedral Church

Would you please support us by your generous donation to build the cathedral church in the Diocese of Rulenge-Ngara in Tanzania?

Why is this project necessary?

For years, our diocese of Rulenge-Ngara which is located in Tanzania in East Africa has been experiencing the growing number of Catholics, most of whom walk long distances to find places for Mass and worship. We have a vibrant community, however, there are not enough churches where our people can come together for the Holy Mass and worship. We are so grateful to Bishop Severine NiweMugizi, Bishop of Rulenge-Ngara Diocese, for his good leadership and pastoral care.

One of our main church buildings started collapsing due to foundational issues, material degradation from age and extreme weather. That church was demolished in 2024 since it was not safe for people to worship. In the same year, the diocese embarked on the project of constructing a new church which will be safe and stable for our people to worship. Currently, the people are celebrating the Holy Mass and worship in a barn made out of corrugated iron sheets. This barn is being used as a temporary church building until the new church is completed.

Approximately $600,000 has already been raised for this project allowing foundation construction to begin. The remaining work is significant and is expected to cost an additional $2 million. Remaining work includes concrete, stone, bricks, steel, wood, roofing, painting, flooring, doors, windows, ceiling, altars, baptismal font, pews, chairs, pulpit, lectern, crosses/crucifixes, statues, holy water fonts, bell towers, vestry, electricity, air conditioning, sound system, and liturgical musical instruments. Once complete the church will serve as the Cathedral of the Diocese of Rulenge-Ngara. It will have a capacity of more than 2,000 people.

We are asking for your help to build this cathedral church where the people of Rulenge-Ngara will pray, worship and celebrate the Holy Mass.
